WYSIYG LaTeX, a gateway
Editing the output of LaTeX is a gateway into LaTeX, not a replacement.
A core mission of Volt is to make LaTeX easier, for some people writing anything in LaTeX is a jump they don't want to take.
The new ability to edit PDF's, is designed for collaborators who want to jump into a project and make a small change.
While editing the pdf the changes are synced back to the source tex files in real time, possibly helping users get there head around how TeX works.
I don't plan on ever building a Microsoft Word level WYSIYG editor as Volt is always going to be TeX first, it's purely an escape hatch for some people to make changes.
